Kate Wester

Kate Wester has been practicing yoga since 1991, and it has been an anchor in her life. Kate hopes to convey a sense of self-care, self-acceptance, equanimity, and the development of moment to moment awareness (as she herself is hoping to develop these traits!). Kate believes that anything that promotes connection, awareness and liberation is yoga. She also values the cultivation of authenticity, joy and passion.
Kate is grateful to teachers JoAn and Ben Taylor for the foundation in Ashtanga Yoga they gave her, as well as the fine example of teachers and human beings that they are. Kate draws inspiration from the rich and broad legacy of yoga as well as other wisdom traditions. She has completed 200 hour teacher training with Suddha Weixler of Chicago Yoga Center. She has also completed teacher trainings with Sarah Powers in Insight Yoga, Manju Jois in Ashtanga, Jim Bennit in Tantric Vinyasa, LeeAnn Carey in Dynamic Restorative Yoga, Paul Grilley in Yin Yoga, and Mira Binzen (Global Family Yoga) in Family Yoga. She has attended many workshops across a broad range of yoga, movement and personal growth. These have all helped to shape her teaching.
In 2012 Kate became certified in Shake Your Soul®: Yoga Dance from the Leven Institute of Expressive Movement. It is Kate's great joy and privelage to bring Shake Your Soul® to Yoga Trek! She is currently studying somatic movement therapy (Soma Soul) with Dan Leven.
Kate continues to deepen her knowledge and personal practice of yoga and personal growth as much as possible. For Kate, it is both a very practical tool for health and wellness as well as a means of deep self knowledge and connection to the greater community. She is very honored to be teaching the wonderful students at Yoga Trek!
