Kate Wester

Kate Wester has been practicing yoga since 1991, and it has been an anchor in her life. Kate hopes to convey a sense of self-care, self-acceptance, equanimity, and the development of moment to moment awareness (as she herself is hoping to develop these traits!). Borrowing the words from teacher Mira Binzen, Kate believes that anything that promotes connection, awareness and liberation is yoga.
Kate was drawn to Ashtanga in 2001 when she began studying with Ben and JoAn Taylor and is forever grateful for the example of fine teachers and human beings that they are. Kate draws inspiration from the rich and broad legacy of yoga. She has completed 200 hour teacher training with Suddha Weixler of Chicago Yoga Center. She has also completed teacher trainings with Sarah Powers in Insight Yoga, Manju Jois in Ashtanga, Jim Bennit in Tantric Vinyasa, LeeAnn Carey in Dynamic Restorative Yoga, Paul Grilley in Yin Yoga, Mira Binzen (Global Family Yoga) in Family Yoga and JoAn Taylor in Ashtanga. She has attended many workshops across a broad range of authentic yoga. These have all helped to shape her teaching.
Kate continues to deepen her knowledge and personal practice of yoga as a student herself as much as possible. For Kate, Yoga is both a very practical tool for health and wellness as well as a means of deep self knowledge and connection to the greater community. She is very honored to be teaching the wonderful students at Yoga Trek!
