Kathleen Furey has a bachelor's degree in Physical Education, and has been studying yoga since the early 1970's. Her mother heard yoga would help with her arthritis, so they joined a class together. Kathleen first began teaching yoga through Triton College, and in the late 1990's, discovered Ashtanga yoga through Joan and Ben Taylor. She enrolled in teacher training with Suddha Weixler, and has also studied and practiced with David Swenson, Richard Freeman, Manju Jois, Paul Greeley, David Roche, Nancy Gilgoff, and Sarah Powers. The family dog, Chester, knows the rule- "No walking on the sticky mat."

What Students Say

"As a relative newcomer to Oak Park, I was thrilled to discover Yoga Trek and its offering of Vinyasa classes.  I immediately noticed a big difference in the physical space and the instructors compared to other locations.  The space is warm, peaceful and inviting, as are the instructors.  The fact that I'm greeted by name makes me feel part of the community; I'm continually pleasantly surprised that my different instructors remember tidbits about me that I have shared with them.

I love that the instructors ensure that we're correctly doing the poses and take the time to adjust us so that we get the most benefit possible. Some times just that additional push from behind can make all the difference in a stretch.

Thank you for providing an oasis of peace in Oak Park.".
