" Yoga is not a process of denial, but revelation. Nor is it a process of creation. Our true, spiritual nature exists. Our imagination, intelligence, enthusiasm, and energy, however potent, are not capable of such a creative act: that is the domain of God. All that we can do is clarify its existence through the practice of yoga; and then honour it in the living of our lives. This is what it means to be holy: to be whole. To live from the wholeness of our human being. This is the state of yoga." -Godfrey Devereux, Dynamic Yoga
Kate Wester
Kate Wester has been practicing yoga since 1991, and it has been an anchor in her life. Her classes are dynamic, but compassionate. Regardless of the style, Kate hopes to convey a sense of self-care and self-acceptance, equanimity, and the development of moment to moment awareness (as she herself is hoping to develop these traits!). She would like her students to know that they are their most important teacher and the voice they should honor first.
Kate was drawn to Ashtanga in 2001 when she began studying with Ben and JoAn Taylor and is forever grateful for the example of fine teachers and human beings that they are. In addition to Ashtanga, Kate draws inspiration from the rich and broad legacy of yoga. She has completed 200 hour teacher training with Suddha Weixler of Chicago Yoga Center. She has also completed teacher trainings with Manju Jois in Ashtanga, Jim Bennit in Tantric Vinyasa, Paul Grilley in Yin Yoga and JoAn Taylor in Ashtanga.
For Kate, Yoga is both a very practical tool for health and wellness as well as a means of deep self knowledge and connection to the greater community. She is very honored to be teaching the wonderful students at Yoga Trek!
